Darren first gained fame in the early ’80s as the keyboardist for the legendary Thin Lizzy, joining the band at just 17. He contributed to iconic albums like Chinatown, Renegade, and Thunder and Lightning, co-writing classics such as Angel of Death and The Sun Goes Down. After Thin Lizzy disbanded, Darren returned to Manchester to form DARE in 1985, showcasing his talents as a songwriter and frontman.
In 1988, DARE released their debut album Out of the Silence, recorded in Los Angeles and earning critical acclaim. With their atmospheric sound and compelling live performances, they toured extensively across Europe, sharing stages with legends like Jimmy Page and Gary Moore. Their follow-up album, Blood from Stone (1991), produced by Keith Olsen, took a harder edge before the band’s move to independence.
Relocating to Snowdonia, North Wales, Darren built his own studio and crafted Calm Before the Storm (1998), marking a shift to a more Celtic-inspired sound. This creative evolution continued with albums like Belief (2001) and Beneath the Shining Water (2004), which showcased Darren’s deeply personal and evocative songwriting.
In 2016, Sacred Ground brought DARE back to the top of the charts, hitting #1 on Amazon Rock Charts in the UK, Germany, Spain, and Italy. Following the success of their re-recorded debut (Out of the Silence II), the band celebrated their 30th anniversary and solidified their cult status with unforgettable live performances at major festivals like Sweden Rock and Rock of Ages.
In 2022, DARE released their tenth studio album, Road to Eden, featuring the hit single Born in a Storm. With an enduring legacy built on passion, creativity, and powerful live shows, DARE continues to captivate fans worldwide.
