Review – ALBUM OF THE WEEK!
“Inspiral Carpets iconic former vocalist Tom Hingley is back with a bold statement, introducing his opus The Grand Mal, a twisting, turning piece of art from the man with that voice.
A seven year gap from his last release and it’s well worth the wait. An exemplary album from one of our genuine Madchester icons who still raises the bar and sprinkles some magic onto our beloved music scene with ease. Tom Hingley IS Tom Hingley in his own right. This is songwriting from a talent who keeps on going and still raise the hairs on the back of your neck with those vocals and can also pull a trick or two on his acoustic guitar. Another album of the year for me.”
Wayne Carey - Louder Than War
“I first listened to Tom Hingley’s new album ‘The Grand Mal’ during a tedious car journey to Manchester and arrived at my destination before I’d set off! Time was suspended whilst listening to this mesmeric offering from the erstwhile singer of ‘Inspirational Staircarpets’.
From the low key opening track ‘Actors’ to the full on ‘My Madness’, via standout track ‘Another Bird on a Wire’, this largely acoustic album begs to be in your collection, especially if you don’t want to grow old! The greatest album of the year, by far, so far…”

“Manchester was music and music was Manchester. Now, 33 years later, listening to Tom Hingley’s latest album, The Grand Mal, remind me of those years when Tom was being played everywhere, l went during my initial years
in the Manc city. No, the music is not the same apart from maybe one track, “Take it like a Woman” with the Farfisa sound which harks back to days of yore. This is an intimate album, mostly based on acoustic guitar and Tom’s excellent vocals. His voice carries the weight of these personal and sometimes poignant lyrics with spectacular skill. This is an album which truly reflects its author...”

"This year, by chance, I was lucky enough to meet Tom when he played at our local pub. For me this outshone the Inspirals getting back together. A great conversation with a down to earth man and an acoustic show from the heart up and close.
Tom let us know that he was releasing an album and it would be available soon. It was a long wait but worth it. I put my new CD on and haven’t stopped playing it since.
I can honestly say that Tom Hingley is an exceptional songwriter. He wears his heart on his sleeve and sings from his soul. This album is superb, 5 out of 5.”
